Our varsity football team took home an incredibly exciting Homecoming win this past Friday night, defeating the visiting Crystal City Hornets in double overtime by the score of 27-26. The Eagles did not make it easy on themselves however, as 6 turnovers hurt their ability to get into too much of a rhythm offensively the entire night. However, they did make some big plays throughout the night, which included a long interception return for a touchdown by senior Luke Niemeyer to keep the game close early. QB Logan Meyer also threw a couple of touchdown passes, one to Niemeyer and one to sophomore Sawyer Patten, as the game went to overtime tied at 20. In the 1st overtime period, both teams failed to score. The Eagles were stopped on downs, while the Hornets fumbled on their posession. In the 2nd overtime, Crystal City scored a touchdown, but were stopped when they went for a 2 point conversion. When the Eagles took over, Meyer again hit Neimeyer on the 1st play for a 25 yard score to tie the game, pending the extra point attempt. Sawyer Patten then put the extra point attempt right through the uprights to give the Eagles the exciting 27-26 win. The Eagles are off this Friday and return to action on Friday, October 6, as they host Principia. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
